Letter to Drew Allar from a Penn State alum—

Drew,

You and the team face a challenge I’ll never envy. You’re a talented crew facing setbacks you never expected, that are visible on the national level.

You also have one of the most unique opportunities in front of you; recovery and showing the resiliency of our program.

I obviously haven’t played a down at beaver stadium but I’ve grown up bleeding blue and white. My first true memory as an 8 year old was driving to a bowl game in FL w my dad to watch us beat Auburn while we got poured on all game. Ever since then PSU football has been one of my few true passions.

As a former PSU athlete, husband/father, and Commander. I’ve either experienced ample setbacks / challenges or tried to help others navigate their own. I’ll pass on a few lines from Rudyard Kipling’s “If” that has always resonated with me when facing these kinds of challenges.

“If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too…

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, and—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!”

Know this, me and many like me are still behind you guys. anxiously anticipating every weekend, screaming at our TVs, and truly excited for what is still to come. That will never change.

As mentioned earlier, I don’t envy the challenge placed in front of you and the team. However, you can take that challenge head on, use these past two weeks as a launching point, and truly embody the PSU grit and spirit.
