East End Social: Summer 2026 Pop-Up Park
What: Hiester Street in downtown State College will become a pedestrian plaza called “East End Social”
Where: Hiester Street from East College Avenue to East Calder Way
When: May 11 – August 3, 2026
Features:
- Tables, chairs, benches, and planters
- Stage for live music and performances
- Food trucks during events
- Rotating community programming and public art
Alcohol: Open container waiver approved for select dates, including a “Summer Happy Hour Series” (5–8 p.m.) featuring local craft beverage producers from the Central PA Tasting Trail
Access: Open daily for public use—no event required to visit
Organizers: Downtown State College Improvement District, partnering with Comet Properties and the State College Redevelopment Authority
Funding: $76,753 state grant from the Local Share Account program; additional funding being sought
The project echoes the scrapped 2020 “Summers on Allen” concept but shifts focus to the east end of downtown, where several new food and beverage businesses have recently opened.
