Summer Is for the Locals: A Quieter Town But Not a Slower Calendar

State College feels a little quieter after graduation.  The calendar shifts rather than slows down. Community festivals, family-friendly events, and outdoor activities ramping up are the first signs of the summer season around Happy Valley.

🍻 Games, Brews & Social Nights

As activity on campus gets a little lighter after graduation, it is a perfect week to dig into some of the local offerings at breweries, restaurants, and neighborhood gathering spots around Happy Valley.

Tonight, catch trivia at University Wine Company or Bill Pickles Tap Room.  

On Thursday, Lion Country Line Dancing returns to Axemann Brewery, and Kate & Jules bring music to Titan Hollow.

On Friday, the 2nd Annual “Summer is for the Locals” Townie Takeover at Champs Downtown gives locals a chance to enjoy downtown as the post-graduation pace settles in. Calling All Townies! – Rediscover State College 

Sunday includes Hops & Hymns at Pine Grove Hall and a Sing-Along Brunch at Titan Hollow.

🤝 Community, Festivals & Seasonal Events

First Responders Weekend takes place Friday and Saturday in Bellefonte, recognizing those who serve the local community.

Saturday also brings several community and family-friendly events around the region. The Plant Celebration & Garden Sale returns to Centre Furnace Mansion, offering a spring outing for gardeners, history lovers, and anyone looking to bring a little more green into the season.

Families can head to the 2026 Multicultural Children’s Festival at the State College Area High School South Building, or stop by the Patton Township Children’s Safety Fair at the Target parking lot at the Colonnade.

🎨 Arts, Access & Creative Workshops

Sensory-Friendly Hours at the Palmer Museum offer a quieter, more accessible museum experience today.

Bellefonte Art Museum also hosts an Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop today, inviting participants to respond to visual art through writing.

🎭 Theater, Comedy & Performance

The Fifth Annual Happy Valley XL Improv Festival runs Thursday through Sunday, bringing a full weekend of comedy and performance to Happy Valley Improv.

For families, The Pout-Pout Fish comes to The Friedman Auditorium on Saturday, bringing the popular children’s story to the stage.

On Monday, One Night on Broadway: An Evening of Performance, Alumni & Celebration takes place at the Playhouse Theatre on the University Park campus.

The live music calendar is full this week, with several standout performances across town.

On Thursday, Digba Ogunbiyi celebrates an album release show at Pine Grove Hall.

Saturday brings Cris Jacobs to The Attic.

Saturday Nittany Knights Barbershop Chorus at Penn State Recital Hall ISM | Penn State 

Sunday has a particularly full music lineup, including Hops & Hymns at Pine Grove Hall, Brazilian Music Immersion Session 3: Sounds from the Northeast, also at Pine Grove Hall, and Sing Along Brunch at Titan Hollow.

Classical music lovers can also head to Bellefonte on Sunday for the Bellefonte Sunday Afternoon Chamber Music Series featuring Vienna Serenade at Trinity United Methodist Church.

🌿 Outdoors, Nature & Wellness

Tonight at Wellness in Motion Studio, Zen & Tonic offers a unique way to reset midweek.

On Thursday, Centred Outdoors hosts a Spring Creek Canyon Guided Outing, giving participants a chance to explore one of the area’s scenic natural spaces.

Friday brings a Public Sky Watch at Canoe Creek State Park, while Sunday offers two Centred Outdoors’ Guided Outing at Tudek Park.

The 2026 PAUSA State Wrestling Championships run Friday through Sunday at Nittany Valley Sports Centre.
